Higher or Further Education Project of the Year

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project in the higher and further education sector (universities, colleges etc)

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Show a level of understanding of the specific needs of the students, staff, researchers and other building users
– Show that, through design, an effective learning and working environment has been created for all users, both inside and outside the building
– Show involvement of key stakeholders throughout the design process
– Include a floorplan showing the adjacencies within the building
– Show how the design could set a precedent for future developments within the higher and further education sector
– Show consideration of sustainability, carbon reduction, and ESG
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation and positive impact
– Give an overview of how the project was delivered within budget


Early Years Project of the Year

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment of a nursery or other early years setting

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Show a level of understanding of the specific needs of the children, staff, and other building users
– Show that, through design, an effective learning and working environment has been created for all users, both inside and outside the building
– Show involvement of key stakeholders throughout the design process
– Include a floorplan showing the adjacencies within the building
– Show how the design could set a precedent for future developments within early years, and the wider education sector
– Show consideration of sustainability, carbon reduction, and ESG
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation and positive impact
– Give an overview of how the project was delivered within budget


School Project of The Year

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project of a school in either the public or private sector

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Show a level of understanding of the specific needs of the children, staff, and other building users
– Show that, through design, an effective learning and working environment has been created for all users, both inside and outside the building
– Show involvement of key stakeholders throughout the design process
– Include a floorplan showing the adjacencies within the building
– Show how the design could set a precedent for future developments within the education sector
– Show consideration of sustainability, carbon reduction, and ESG
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation and positive impact
– Give an overview of how the project was delivered within budget


SEND Project of the Year

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project specifically aimed at pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across all educational settings, both public and private

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Show a level of understanding of the specific needs of the children, staff, and other building users
– Show that, through design, an effective learning and working environment has been created for all users, both inside and outside the building
– Show involvement of key stakeholders throughout the design process
– Show adherence to current SEND design guidance
– Include a floorplan showing the adjacencies within the building
– Show how the design could set a precedent for future developments within the education sector
– Show consideration of sustainability, carbon reduction, and ESG
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation and positive impact
– Give an overview of how the project was delivered within budget


Student Accommodation Project of the Year

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project specifically aimed at providing accommodation for higher and further education students

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Show a level of understanding of the specific needs of the children, staff, and other building users
– Show that, through design, an effective living environment has been created for all users, both inside and outside the building
Show involvement of key stakeholders throughout the design process
– Include a floorplan showing the adjacencies within the building
– Show how the design could set a precedent for future developments
– Show consideration of sustainability, carbon reduction, and ESG
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation and positive impact
– Give an overview of how the project was delivered within budget


Decarbonisation/Green Project of the Year

This award reflects the recent challenge set by the Government for the education sector to become carbon neutral by 2030. The judges will be looking for a single initiative, or series of initiatives, that are helping to reduce energy use and a school’s overall carbon footprint, including, but not restricted to, energy-efficient heating and lighting solutions; waste management and recycling projects; and green transport plans. Entries can come from both the public and private sectors.

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of the project and its aims
– Give evidence of the positive impact on services and efficiencies
– Show collaboration and consultation with stakeholders throughout
– Show how it will impact on wider carbon reduction efforts within the organisation and more widely across the education sector


Award for Best Architectural Design (International)

This award will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment health or care project of any type and any size from outside of the UK which creates a positive, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors/carers, and staff.

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Show a level of understanding of the specific needs of the patients, staff and visitors who will be using the building
– Show that, through design, a therapeutic environment has been created for all users, both inside and outside the building, which enhances treatment or work pathways
– Show involvement of patients, staff and other key stakeholders throughout
– Include a floorplan showing the adjacencies within the building
– Show how the design could set a precedent for future developments around the world
– Show consideration of sustainability and carbon reduction
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation and positive impact

Interior Design Project of the Year

This award will be presented for an outstanding internal space that enhances the overall experience of all building users within the private or public education sector at all levels. This can include repainting and refurbishment projects, artworks, and internal alterations.

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of the project or intervention
– Explain how it improves on the previous environment
– Explain how it positively impacts staff, students/pupils, and visitors
– Give an overview of how it was delivered sustainably and within budget

Exterior Space Project of the Year

This award will be presented for an outstanding external space that enhances the overall experience of all building users within the private or public education sector at all levels. This can include external building works, landscaping, artwork, and the improvement and creation of external areas such as carparks and public access points

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of the project or intervention
– Explain how it improves on the previous environment
– Explain how it positively impacts staff, students/pupils, and visitors
– Give an overview of how it was delivered sustainably and within budget

Property Investor of the Year

This award will be presented to an investment company or group which has been involved in significant and successful deals in the education property sector over the last 12 months.

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of property deals carried out over the last 12 months
– Give information on how the individual or group supported clients throughout the process
– Explain how the deals have helped to provide sustainable and fit-for-purpose physical environments to maximise outcomes for learners and staff
Explain how the work contributes to ESG and other standards

Architect of the Year

The prize will be given to an architectural practice which has designed a building or series of buildings that set a new standard for the delivery of modern education environments

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of the project and the design vision
– Give information on how the design met the needs set out in the client brief
– Explain how the architect worked with and supported clients and other stakeholders throughout the process
– Provide details of how the project could create a new benchmark for the more-innovative and fit-for-purpose design of educational facilities in the future
– Provide clear evidence of post-occupancy evaluation

Builder/Contractor of the Year

The prize will be given to a contractor or developer which has delivered an educational building or series of buildings

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of the project and how it meets the client’s needs
– Give details of how creative and forward thinking the project has been in terms of design, process, or technology
– Give details of how the contractor worked with and supported clients and other stakeholders and sub contractors throughout the process
– Give details of how the project was delivered on time and within budget
– Provide information on how the project meets sustainability, carbon reduction, and ESG targets
– Give details of how the project provides a new and more-efficient approach to the delivery of education projects

Property Adviser of the Year

The judges will be looking for an advisor or consultancy firm that has shown excellence when advising on education property transactions, acquisitions or financial or operational issues over the last 12 months

The judges will be looking for applications which:
– Provide an overview of education sector advisory work carried out over the last 12 months
– Give information on how you have supported clients throughout the process
– Explain how the deals have helped to enhance the market and/or deliver necessary new estate
– Explain how the work contributes to ESG and other standards
